Chapter Thirteen

Eden

As much as I tried, I couldn’t open my eyes for shit. I felt like every time I got close, something kept pulling me into a black hole. I even tried to scream but no sound would escape my lips. What the fuck was going on? I couldn’t be going out like this. While I was trying to wake up, I could hear my mother’s voice. She kept praying for me to pull through and saying something about not wanting to lose her child. I wanted so badly to wake up and tell her that I was okay but once again, I felt like I was hit with a ton of bricks. And just like that, I was out again.

“Eden.” I heard a voice call out to me. I could have sworn it was my father but I knew it wasn’t possible. He was dead. “Eden.” The voice called again. It was then that I noticed I was standing and looking my daddy square in the eyes.

“Papa?” I asked. “Is that you?” he nodded. “But how?” I was so lost that questions started coming from everywhere.

“I know you want answers but that’s not why I’m here baby girl. We don't have much time. You have to go back.”

“What? Daddy no! I want to be with you! I need you!” I said holding back tears.

“They need you more Eden.” He turned his back to me and suddenly I could see my body lying on the hospital bed with Christian standing by my side. My sisters where sitting on the couches crying while my mother stood in the corner trying to keep herself together. “They need you to be there with them. That man out there loves you and wants to give you the world, but most of all you have a beautiful baby girl to take care of.”

My hand flew to my mouth as tears streamed down my cheeks. “My baby survived?”

“Of course she did. She’s strong like her mother. Now quit playing with everyone’s emotions and wake up. They already lost me; they don't need to lose you too.” He placed a kiss upon my forehead and I could have sworn I felt his touch. “I love you.” His frame then started to disappear and before I knew it I was alone again. I knew what I had to do.

When I opened my eyes, everyone was in my room sleeping. I snatched the tubes from my mouth and nose and started coughing and gagging instantly. “Christian.” I called after finally catching my breath.

I watched him turn in his sleep and then suddenly look over at me. His eyes grew wide and he became teary eyed. “Leila…girls! She’s awake! Eden is up. Yall wake up!” he then turned back to me and grabbed my hand. “Baby don't you ever scare me like that again! I thought I had lost you.”

“Honestly I thought I was gone too.” I said with my voice sounding annoyingly raspy. Suddenly remembering my baby I grabbed my stomach.
